The focus of swimmers in Somerset for the next four weekends will be on the 50m pool at Millfield where this year’s County Championships are being held. Wells Swimming Club has a record number of swimmers who have qualified for the championships in a record number of events. The championships got underway this Sunday with the long distance events and Wells have made a great start.
Despite also qualifying for the 1500m freestyle, Cameron Taylor chose to concentrate his efforts on the 800m free, which proved a good tactic as his strong swim saw him pick up the silver medal in the 13 year old boys race.
Also qualifying for the gruelling 800m free was Katie Chambers, who was not on her best form and finished in 12th place but who has qualified for a further eight events.
