Wells Swimming Club at Somerset County Championships Week 2

The 2nd weekend of this year’s County Championships was a busy one for Wells Swimming Club.

 

The Saturday started with the girls 200 free. Asta Maddox swam superbly to get a 5 second PB and qualify for the final in the 10 to 11 yr old event. In the final she swam even faster but just missed out on the medals coming 4th. Whilst in the same event Bliss Sumbler swam well and finished 13th. In the 12 yr event Lizzie Chambers had a fantastic 6 second PB which saw her climb an amazing 14 places up from her seeding, whilst Ailsa Richardson’s PB saw her climb six places. In the 15 yr event Katie Chambers finished in 30th and in the over 16s both Eloise Yeadon Caiger and Emma Healey moved up from their seedings.

 

In the 100 back Declan Truan-Thatcher qualified for the final of the 12 yr old event and despite a PB missed out on the medals finishing in 5th. In the 13 yr event Cameron Taylor had a PB to finish 17th, 5 places above his seeding.

 

In the 100 fly Maisie Banwell qualified for the final of the 14 yr old event and her great swim in the final saw her pick up a PB and the silver medal. In the over 16s Eloise Yeadon Caiger was close to her LC PB and finished in 24th place.

 

In the 50 breast Declan Truan-Thatcher was off his usual pace and finished in 14th place whilst, in the 13 yr event, Cameron Taylor finished in 11th.

 

The Sunday started with the 200 breast and in the 10-11 yr event Lachlan Taylor’s strong swim gave him a 2 second PB and saw him finish in 12th, whist brother Declan finished in 10th in the 12 yr event. In the 13 yr event Cameron Taylor dropped two seconds off his PB and came 12th, two places up from his seeding.

 

In the 200 back Maisie Banwell qualified for the final of the 14 yr old event and despite another great swim and PB she missed out on the medals coming 4th. In the 15 yr event Katie Chambers finished in 23rd place a climb of 7 places from her seeding and Emma Healy in the over 16s came 17th again up from her seeding.

 

In the 100 free both Declan Truan-Thatcher and Cameron Taylor qualified for their finals, with Declan finishing 6th in the 12 yr old event and Cameron Taylor 7th in the 13 yr event above his seeding. Whilst in the 13 yr event Seth Allom swam well to get a 1 second PB to finish 17th.

 

In the girls 50 back, Asta Maddox got a PB and qualified for the final in the 10 to 11 yr old event and despite swimming even faster in the final she again just missed out on the medals coming 4th, this time by a few hundredths of a second. Whilst sisters Ailsa and Edie Richardson came 25th and 37th in the 12 yr and 13 yr events respectively. Despite a PB Maisie Banwell failed to qualify for the final of the 14 yr event but moved up an impressive 9 places from her seeding.   In the 15 yr event Katie Chambers climbed 6 places from her seeding and Emma Healy 4 places (in the over 16s) to come 17th. Whilst Eloise Yeadon Caiger’s finishing touch was hampered by the lane rope causing her to lose vital seconds so no PB.

 

In the final of the girls 400 free Bliss Sumbler’s determined swim saw her missing out on the medals coming 4th but moving up from her 5th seeding.
