Wells Swimming Club at Weston-Super-Mare Easter Meet 2018


Wells Swimming Club was back in action at the Weston-Super-Mare Easter Meet at Hutton Moor. It was another fantastic meet for the club with some great swims. There were huge PBs and the medal haul totalled an amazing eleven Golds, three Silvers, four Bronzes and twelve 4th to 6th place medals.


On a weekend when the boys’ team had most of the medal glory, Head Coach Eli Meyers said it was great to see the young girls in the club beginning to make their mark as they showed significant improvement.


Star of the girls’ team was Asta Maddox who won three gold medals; in 100m IM, 100m back and 50m breast all with big PBs.


Katie Chambers won bronze in the 200m fly with a 9 second PB. She came 4th in the 200m breast and 6th in both the 50m and 100m breast.


Bliss Sumbler continues to show she is a swimmer to watch gaining large PBs in all of her events and 5th place medals in both 100m and 200m free and an impressive 12th place at 50m free in a field of over 30.


Elizabeth Chambers had a great meet achieving large PBs in each of her events.


Layla Matthews had an impressive meet gaining huge PBs in all of her events including an 8 second PB in 100m breast and 16 second PB in 100m free.


Poppy McGhee impressed in her debut gala for Wells with huge time gains particularly in the 200m free and 100m breast.


Eloise Yeadon Caiger showed consistency finishing 5th in four of her events and improving her 200m breast time by 40 seconds!


One of the two stars of the meet for the boys’ team and highest points scorer for Wells was Cameron Taylor who swam superbly to win four gold medals; in both the 50m and 100m breast (two PBs), in 200m free and in 100m back and silver in 50m back.

Also starring for the boys’ team and second highest points scorer for Wells was Declan Truan-Thatcher who won gold in each of his four events; in the 50m breast(PB) 100m and 200m breast and in 100m IM.


Third highest points scorer for Wells was Thomas Maitland-Smith who won silver in the 100m free, two 4th place medals for 50m and 200m free, 5th place medal for 50m breast, 6th place medals for 100m breast and 50m fly and achieved PBs in all but one of his events.


Lachlan Taylor had an impressive meet winning medals in all but one of his events. He grabbed the silver medal in the 50m breast with a PB, the bronze in the 100m breast, and 5th place medals in both 100m IM and free.


Theo Truan-Thatcher won bronze in the 100m IM (PB) and a 5th place medal in the 100m back and a good PB in the 50m breast (10th place).


There were healthy PBs for Sam Cavill and Jack Freeman, who achieved PBs in all of his events and just missed out on the medals in both 200m back and 50m fly.


A great all-round performance from Wells.
