Competition Information

As a Club there are several ways in which a swimmer can compete whether young or old.

Wells SC Club Championships

Annually we hold our own Club Championships. This is open to all Members from the youngest to the oldest. There are races held for all strokes at all distances. Following this we then hold our ‘Club Presentation Night’ where we celebrate our Club and medals and trophies are awarded. Only Club membership (non-competitive membership) is required to enter this and we encourage all members to take part from Development to Masters squads.

Throughout the year we enter Team Gala Competitions which are the perfect way for novice swimmers to start competing. Commonly these are held early evening over a few hours at a variety of pools. One example of these is the Cotswold League series, in which we swim against Clubs across the South West over four rounds resulting in a final gala. Normally only Club membership (non-competitive membership) is required to enter these. Invitation to these is made by the Team Manager & Head Coach.

Open Meets

Licensed Open Meets are held by Clubs throughout the year. We try to enter one a month and enter these as a team. Swimmers achieve individual times with the aim to better their previous times or even gain qualifying times to be able to enter County, Regional and National events. Individual times from Licensed meets are recorded and can all be accessed via the ‘Result and Rankings’ website of the ASA at

Each Open Meet is held at a different level. These being Level 1 (Highest) to Level 4 (Lowest) and are either Short course (25m) & Long Course (50m). Depending upon the level, they will have either qualifying times or too fast times. For further information on the levels of open meets go to

To enter an Open Meet you must be a ASA Category Two swimmer (Competitive membership) as this is a requirement of any licensed open meet.

If you are in any doubt about whether you are ready for an Open Meet please speak with a Coach.

City of Wells Open Meet

For several years in April we have held our own Licensed Open Meet at Millfield School 50m main pool. This is an important event in our calendar every year, where we all pull together as a Club and invite other Clubs from the region and beyond.
